Rowan 1: Round 21

Last round, the Rowan family was struggling to keep up with the struggles of raising twin toddlers while also balancing Athena and Cyprus's freelance career gigs. Luckily, grandparents Adrianna and Nemo were available to help out. By the end of the week, the family had left the toddler years behind them as Hera and Hestia grew to children.

Hi, guys!

Hestia: Hi, mysterious voice!

What are we all doing in...the newly remodeled kitchen...

Hera: Grandpa's showing us how to cook!

Oh, that's a good idea...

Oh...I guess I spoke too soon.

Well...this is a great way to start off the week.

Goodbye, Nemo...

Well...that was not what I was expecting when I first arrived. Are you ok?

Cyprus: Well, I'm ok...but I'm not sure about Athena and the twins. So I thought I'd arrange a little surprise...

Surprise?

Wait, you're getting a puppy now?

Athena: Honey, are you sure this is the best time for this?

Yeah, I'm with Athena on this one.

Cyprus: We've been talking about it for awhile now.

Athena: I know, but...there's just so much going on right now.

Yeah, like...Spooky Day....

Cyprus: You'll see...this will be great.

Adoption Agent: Hello, sir...thank you so much for giving this little lady a good home.

Cyprus: Oh, of course...we're so excited. I can't wait to show my daughters...they've wanted a pet for the longest time.

Adoption Agent: And remember, if you ever decide to take on any other animals...

Other animals?

Adoption Agent: Oh, yes...we've been getting requests for llamas...cows...even chickens.

Cyprus: As pets? Huh...

Yeah, um...let's just stick with the dog for right now...

Welcome to the family, Loma...

Hera: We have a dog?

Cyprus: Yup! Her name's Loma.

Hestia: She's so cute!

Athena: No.

Cyprus: I mean, it's not the craziest idea in the world...

What's not the craziest idea in the world?

Athena: Building a chicken coop in the backyard? Yeah, I'd say that's a pretty crazy idea. Why would we do with chickens, anyway...

Cyprus: Get eggs?

Athena: We can get eggs from the store...

Wait, can you guys get eggs from a store? I kind of always assumed food just...appeared for you guys.

Cyprus: But these eggs will be fresh and...better! Trust me, you'll see...

Hestia: Wow!

Athena: Well, you really went to town on this, didn't you?

You built this yourself?

Cyprus: (panting) Yup. All me.

Huh...I guess you got some of your grandpa Trinidad's handiness ability.

Ok...I guess we're doing this.

Yup...those are chickens.

Um...do chickens like hugs? I'm not really sure...

But I do know they like making a lot of noise...

Yeah, I'm with you there Loma...

Is there a reason you're doing your science project outside in the yard?

Hestia: Hera's taking up the whole living room with hers.

Just keep those chemicals away from the chickens...the last thing we need is radioactive poultry.

Although that would make a pretty awesome decoration for Spooky Day.

Hestia: Eww!!! I'm not touching that!

Not touching what?

Hera: Dad wants us to clean out the chicken coop...but someone's too prissy to do it.

Hestia: I am not too prissy. I just don't want to touch...that.

Hera: Ugh...move over. I'll do it...

Glad to see the cooking lessons are still going on...um, Hera? You washed your hands between chores, I hope?

Adrianna: Don't worry, I made sure of that.

Uh-oh...I see sparkles! That can only mean one thing!

Happy birthday, Loma!

Whoa...that's quite a difference.

Athena: Ok, now you two wait here. I'll go get the camera...

Hestia: Wait, what about Loma?

Hera: Yeah! Loma needs a costume too!

Ok, that is really cute.

And speaking of cute...

Hera: Whoa...it's a baby chicken!

Congratulations...

Well, you're becoming quite the little farmer...

Hera: Yup! I found 4 whole eggs this morning! Mom's gonna use them to make breakfast!

Hestia: Those eggs were good...I hope there weren't any more baby chickens in any of them.

Hera: What?

Hestia: I mean, there was a baby chicken in that one egg, right? How do you know there weren't baby chickens in the ones we ate?

Don't worry, Hera...I'm sure there weren't...

Ok, maybe we'd better celebrate before Hera's too traumatized to participate.

Happy birthday, dear Cyprus...

Ok, well, with that out of the way I probably should be moving on. Good luck with the chickens, Hera! I'll see you all next round.

A Message From the Mysterious Voice: And Cottage Living finally makes an appearance! I was planning on waiting a bit to fully introduce it, but I couldn't wait. These guys didn't have room for a cow or llama, but a chicken coop fit in their backyard nicely. I also think I finally have a handle on telling Hera and Hestia apart now-most of the time.
