Tranquility Creek Holiday Special 2020

Hi, everyone. Mysterious Voice here. So...I know that usually, I do some special year-end post with the entire town, but I've got to be honest-I just don't have it in me this year to put that together. This year has been a lot to deal with-even for disembodied neighborhood narrators.

So I've decided to do something a little different this year. By chance, this year was also the 5 year anniversary of Tranquility Creek. (Granted, the anniversary was back in February, but it still counts.) So rather than create one big neighborhood picture this year, I put together this retrospective of the first 5 years. Some of these screenshots were included in previous blog posts, others were not.

Enjoy the memories, and let's hope for a better 2021...

Flenderson 2: Round 21

Last round, all of the Flenderson kids were finding their way through high school. Sunshine took up video production, while Wind got a jump on her veterinarian skills thanks to some old equipment in the basement. Snow, meanwhile, turned his attention to romance as he graduated, eventually falling in love with and marrying Kayla Flemming. Since then, all 3 have completed college and Wind has moved back in with her new husband, Houston, as well as his unexpected addition, Storm.

Hi, Wind!

Wind: Hi, mysterious voice.

What's up with Sandy?

Wind: I'm not sure, exactly...but his fur is super cold

Well, it is winter...so are you just going to treat animals in the basement?

Wind: Nope! Tomorrow I open up my very own clinic!

I guess Houston's got to get into his chosen career too. You know, it's kind of nice knowing what he's going to do based on his degree.

Houston: Do you want me to come down tomorrow morning and help out?

Wind: Don't you start work tomorrow too?

Houston: Yeah, but not until the afternoon. Besides, it might be good for Storm to see how a vet clinic runs.

Speaking of...where is she?

Storm: Doggy!

Well, it looks like she's ready to be a vet assistant...

Houston: So, it's really ok that Storm is here?

Wind: Will you stop? I told you-I love her just as much as if I'd had her myself.

Speaking of having babies yourself... right on cue...

At least Hugo will look the part of a Grandpa soon.

...You know, I really shouldn't be surprised by this anymore...

Wind: Surprised by what?

The immortal popcorn. I swear, that stuff is going to outlive you all.

Houston: Ok, sweetie. You ready to help Mommy today?

Storm: How?

Houston: Well...you can help keep the animals happy while they're waiting for Mommy to help them. You can show them how well you know your animal sounds.

Storm: Woof! Woof!

Houston: Right...just like that.

Looks like you've got a customer already.

Wind: Hi there! Welcome! Just give me a moment to get changed and I'll be right with you.

Wind: Ah! I see the problem...

Really? Well, that makes one of us.

This seems a bit more obvious...

Oh, hey Buzz...

Buzz: Hey, mysterious voice. Hey, Wind, I just...

Storm: Grandpa! Grandpa!

Buzz: Hey, Storm! Are you helping out today?

Storm: I help with the animals!

Buzz: Well, I'm sure you're doing a very good job.

Did you just come down to check on your granddaughter?

Buzz: No, actually...one of the cats isn't looking so good.

Right...the cats...

Houston: Peanut? What's wrong with Peanut?

Wind: Relax, Houston. Your dad brought her in, but I don't think it's anything serious. But it does remind me...weren't we supposed to take one of the cats once we finished school?

Houston: Oh, yeah...I must have forgot.

I mean...you did have a baby before then. I think you can be forgiven...

Wind: Did you ever decide which one to bring with you?

Houston: I think so...

Buzz: Hey, Peanut looks great now. Thanks, Wind.

Wind: No problem.

Buzz: Well, whenever Houston wants to pick one of them up we'll have all the stuff ready.

Wind: How about after work tomorrow night?

Buzz: Sounds like a plan.

Wind: I can't wait to see which one he takes...

You and me both, Wind. But we'd better get back to your house. We've got a birthday to attend to.

Happy birthday, dear Hugo...

Wait...you aged up in the yard?

Hugo: Yeah, um...it took a couple tries.

That sounds painful...

Ok, let's see who won the cat contest...

And the winner is...Caramel!

Houston: Yeah, it just didn't seem right to split Nougat and Peanut up.

And did her paws light your way home?

Houston: Yeah, I know. Luckily Wind can take care of whatever that is in the basement.

Houston: Guess what?

Storm: What?

Houston: Daddy brought home another animal friend for you...

Storm: Doggy!

Houston: No, this one's a kitty. Her name's Caramel. Want to go meet her?

Storm: Yeah!

Storm: Meow! Meow!

You know, maybe it's a good thing we're giving Storm a human sibling...

And I guess we're doing this at home...

It's a boy! Welcome, Tornado!

Ok, Hugo, I know this family loves popcorn but I don't think it's very appropriate for Tornado's first meal...

Maybe leave the feeding to Wind and focus on decorating instead.

Houston: Hmm...I think this one will look best here...but does that clash with this one?

Wind: Houston, by the time you get all the ornaments on it's going to be New Year's.

Aww, very nice...hey, what's that I hear outside?

Storm: What noise do you make?

Yeah, it's definitely a good thing she'll have a human playmate soon.

Well, with that awkwardness out of the way, I guess it's time to start handing out the presents. From the oldest...

...to the youngest.

And what better way to follow up those presents than...more presents?

Wind: Oh, I think this one's for Grandma...

Lightning: Oh, Wind, I don't need all this...

Wind: Of course you do, Mom! Today's your special day too!

How so?

Oh, I see. Another Winterfest birthday...

Storm: Uncle Snow!

Snow: Hey, there Storm! Are you being a good girl for Daddy?

Wow, you two are really close already.

Snow: Well, yeah...I lived in the same house as Houston in college, remember? I met her before Wind did.

Oh, right...

And of course everybody flocks to the new baby...

Good to know Caramel is still an adventurous eater...but maybe we should do the cake now while it's still intact.

Happy birthday, dear Lightning...

Lightning: Ow! My back!

At least you got to age up indoors.

And it looks like Lightning wasn't the only one with a birthday.

Happy birthday, dear Tornado...

Get ready for more Charmer hugs...

And...he looks exactly like Snow did as a toddler.

Wind: Ok, I think we're ready to go play in the snow...

Play in the snow? He looks like he's ready to climb a mountain in that outfit.

And that popcorn is now feeding a 3rd generation...

Storm: Pop! Pop!

Good to know she knows her food noises as well as her animals...

Ok, well as fun as this has been I think I'd better be moving on. I'll see all of you next round!

A Message From the Mysterious Voice: And only 3+ years after Cats and Dogs released, I finally tried out the vet career. Overall it was pretty fun. Wind obviously had a jump start on the skill, so she's able to treat animals pretty quickly. And it was a very good thing that Buzz showed up with Peanut because otherwise I totally would have forgotten about Houston taking one of the cats. And that popcorn really does seem to be immortal. I'm sure it's just a glitch, but I think it's kind of funny that in a house with not one but two high level chefs, the entire family lives off of generations-old popcorn. (I also just realized as I write this that I accidentally labeled Tornado as Toronto in the end picture-I can see that becoming a problem down the line.)
