Bernard 3: Round 18

Last round was a sad one for the Bernard family, with both Trout and Aruba passing away from old age before their youngest daughter Corellia had even graduated from high school. It didn't help that her boyfriend, Austen, was less than sympathetic about the situation at first. However, by the end of the week not only had Austen seemed to come around, he had even moved in and the couple adopted a puppy named Falcon.

Hey, guys...

Corellia: Oh, hi mysterious voice...

Doing some late night cleaning?

Corellia: Yes, it looks like Falcon didn't make it out in time.

I see...

Austen: You about done there?

Corellia: Almost...why don't you go get ready in the bedroom?

You two don't want to...redecorate first? No? Ok, I'll just be outside...

Anybody surprised here?

Austen: You're...what?

Corellia: Pregnant! Isn't it great?

Austen: Yeah....

Corellia: I've got to go call Hosnian and Alderaan...

Austen: Yeah, um...I've got to make some calls too...

Austen: Well, I don't know what you want me to do....dude, it's not like I planned this...Look, just give me a little more time, ok? I'll figure it out.

You'll figure what out, exactly?

Austen: Do you mind? I'm trying to have a private conversation here...

Corellia: Are you excited to be a big brother? Are you?

No, I think he's excited about something else...

That's quite a growth spurt...

And now he's big enough to hug back...

Huh...congratulations, Austen...

Austen: You seem surprised...

Well, you haven't exactly struck me as an ideal office worker so far...

Hopefully he does better in the father department...

Let's head to the hospital!

Austen: Aw, for the love of...isn't anybody working in this place?

Well, it is 1AM...

Corellia: Austen...maybe you should stay in the waiting room...

Yeah, that's probably for the best.

Forest: Alright, Corellia...just relax...

It's a girl! Welcome, Tatooine...

Aww, she's cute...

Corellia: All right, baby...let's go meet your daddy...

Wait, where is Austen?

Corellia: Oh, he went home already....

He went home while his first child was being born?

Corellia: Oh, it's fine. He needed to finish setting up the nursery...

Huh? I do that...

Corellia: See? He did a great job.

(sigh)

Austen: So...this is it?

Corellia: Uh-huh...meet your new daughter...

Austen: Cool...um...

Do you want to...you know, hold her or anything?

Austen: Eh...she seems ok right now. Besides, I've got some stuff to do for work tomorrow...

(sigh)

Austen: What? Someone's got to pay for this kid, right?

Yes, and that someone would be Corellia...

Corellia: Well, Austen's job helps out some...

Yeah, two days salary pretty much paid for...the dollhouse.

Which he is now destroying. Austen, do you really have to take out your anger on your daughter's dollhouse?

Austen: What? She's a lump in a bassinet...

What a wonderful way to describe your child...

Austen: I'll fix it before she knows the difference, ok?

Austen, I think we need to have a talk...

Austen: No, I haven't fixed the stupid dollhouse yet, ok?

Not about that...you know, you don't seem to be really digging this whole...family thing.

Austen: What are you talking about?

Well, you have barely interacted with the baby. And you haven't really talked to Corellia in the past few days either.

And you know, seeing as how it's almost love day...

Austen: Ok, ok. I'll get her something if it will shut you up.

What a romantic...

Corellia: There you go, baby. All clean...

So, um...any plans for Love Day?

Corellia: Oh, um...well, you know, we can't really do much with a newborn...but tonight we're going to have a nice dinner here at home.

Assuming that someone fixes your fridge...how long has that been broken?

Corellia: Oh, a few days. It's ok, though. Austen will get to it when he's not too tired from work...

Austen: Hey, this is pretty good...

Impressive considering the broken refrigerator...

Austen: Huh? Oh, right...well, we can just get a new one.

Corellia: Are you sure? Fridges are pretty expensive...

Austen: You've still got all your parents' money, right?

Corellia: I guess...

Oh, right...Falcon's still here. And it looks like he's been busy.

Corellia: Ok, buddy. Let's give you a bath...

Hold that thought, Corellia. First let's get your daughter out of that bassinet...

Happy birthday, dear Tatooine...

Silly...haven't seen that one in awhile.

And she looks just like you...even if she does need a new outfit.

Tatooine: Daddy...play?

Austen: What? I'm playing with you right now...

Doing push-ups near her does not count as playing.

This ought to be good...

Tatooine: Mama? Time to go?

Go? Where are we going?

Tatooine: It's her first day at play group...

On Love Day?

Corellia: I know...the timing seems a bit off. You know, I could just drop her and come back...

Austen: Um, no...no. You should stay. It's only her first day once, right? I can just give you this now, then...

Corellia: Oh, Austen, thank you...it's so nice...

Yeah...it's almost as nice as the ones that are growing right outside your house...

And it's such great weather for play group, too...you know, maybe I should go check on Austen...I mean, the house...

Austen: Hey, brother...

Max: Hey, man. What's up? You weren't kidding about this house...

Austen: I know, right?

Will: Dude, you said we'd be able to crash here once you moved in...

Austen: I know, I know...but then the kid showed up.

Max: So? How much room can she take up? This place is huge.

Austen: Look, guys...just give me a little more time. I'll work it out, I promise.

Will: You'd better...

Max: Yeah, man. We're all counting on you...

Well, as much as I'd like to stick around and see how this plays out...I think I'd better be on my way. I'll see you guys next round...

A Message From the Mysterious Voice: This lot was actually a lot of fun; I don't often play mean Sims, so having Austen around was a challenge. He actually does have a better relationship with Tatooine than the post suggests, but he also tends to ignore Corellia entirely. And I don't know what is up with Falcon and dirt, but I swear this dog needed more baths than all the other dogs in town put together.
