Kauker 1: Round 17

Last round was a sad one for the Kauker family. Grandma Arielle passed away from old age early in the week, which was quite the blow for Asteroid who was still trying to adjust to his new triplet nieces. Sadly, that wasn't the end of it though, as Cirrus soon joined his wife in the afterlife leaving Asteroid technically orphaned in the care of his older sister Universe.

Hey, guys...why so dressed up?

Asteroid: We had to go to another stupid wedding...

Universe: Asteroid, could you please just...

Asteroid: Just what? You're not my mom...

Universe: Poe? A little help?

Poe: You know, I've never noticed how many pictures of boats we have...

Great parenting job there, Poe...

Poe: Alright, everybody eat up. We've got to be out the door in 45 minutes...

Eclipse: Ew! My hand's all sticky!

Well, that might be because you just scooped up a huge handful of syrup...

Poe: (sigh) I better tell the other parents we're running late...

Your week for playgroup, huh?

Poe: Yeah. Usually, Universe would take it but with her parents both gone now she's got to really focus on her painting. But it'll be fine, right? How hard could it be?

Exactly...look, it's just cute little hugs...

Balcony: Wanna see if we can jump from the tunnel to the ball pit?

...and possibly dangerous planning...

Rey: Only girls can go in the ball pit!

Finn: Huh? Why?

Rey: Because there's a giant monster that only eats boys!

Rey: Right?

Eclipse: Oh, yeah...it's a really big monster. With really sharp teeth.

And a little emotional scarring...what could go wrong here?

... Of course. Well, at least we know there won't be any more surprises with Universe...

Asteroid: It's happening! It's happening!

What's happening? It's the middle of the night...

Asteroid: They're here! Mom, wait! I want to come with you!

Oh, right. The alien thing...

Asteroid: Did you see her? Did you? What did they look like? Did they look like me?

Poe: Asteroid, what on earth are you talking about?

Asteroid: The aliens! I know they came last night! I saw the lights!

Poe: It was probably just a dream, buddy...

Asteroid: It was not a dream! Nobody every listens to me just because I'm a kid...

Well, looks like it's time to test that theory out, Asteroid...

Which I guess means we need to start getting the triplets ready for a party...good luck with that.

At least Eclipse is trying to help make the cake? Yeah, let's go with that.

Ready or not, party time's here.

Gemini: Hi, Asteroid. Happy birthday...

Asteroid: Hi, Gemini! Thanks! Take one last look, though...

Gemini: Huh?

Asteroid: Did you see that rocket out there? That was my mom's rocket. And once I'm finally big enough, I'm going to take it and find her!

Gemini: But Asteroid...my dad said that Grandma died...

Asteroid: Well, he's lying, just like everybody else...you'll see!

(sigh) Hopefully a little age will help Asteroid out here. Happy birthday, dear Asteroid...

Ok, that's do-able...

Oh, right...I guess we have to go back to the mirror.

Asteroid: What? Why? This is perfect for me to go find my mom...

Yeah, well, it's not exactly perfect for high school...

Planet: So, what's all this about Asteroid building a rocket?

Universe: Oh, don't get me started. Ever since Mom died...remember, she bought that kit and then never touched it again?

Planet: Those weird boxes in the yard? I always wondered what that was.

Universe: Well, ever since she died Asteroid has convinced himself that if he can just finish that rocket, he'll be able to blast off and find her.

Planet: Huh? What sense does that make? Mom wasn't even an alien...

Well...

Universe: Well, what?

She...kind of was...

Planet: What?

Yeah, um...funny story. You know that makeup that aliens can wear to make themselves look human? Well, your mom was really good at it...

Universe: You're lying. There's no way we wouldn't have noticed.

I know, it was weird to me too. But...

Planet: Wait...is that why Mom's grave is so different than Dad's?

Yup.

Universe: I can't believe it...she never told us!

Honestly, I think she forgot herself...I know I did.

Planet: Huh...maybe Asteroid fits in better around here than he thinks.

Let's check in with the other branch of the family...

Leia: Hey there!

Poe: Please tell me you didn't bring...

Leia: No, no, they're home with Mom and Dad.

Poe: Good.

Still have that pact to not get them together until they're in school?

Poe: You've...met our kids, right?

I'm not saying it's a bad idea...

See? That looks better...

Asteroid: Whatever.

Universe: She's right. You know, they would have been so proud of you...

Asteroid: What do you mean, would have? I told you...I'm going to find them!

Universe: Asteroid...they're gone...

Asteroid: That's what you think...

So, Asteroid...I think we need to have a talk.

Asteroid: Can it wait? I'm kind of in the middle of something here.

Yeah, about that...look, I think it's great that you're finally finishing this rocket, but...

Ugh...can this wait, Galaxy?

Galaxy: So...interesting news we all learned about Mom last night, huh?

Planet filled you in?

Galaxy: Yeah...too bad we never found out before she died...

Asteroid: She didn't die! She went home!

Galaxy: (sigh) Asteroid, look...Gemini told me what you two talked about last night. I just...don't want you to be disappointed, ok?

Asteroid: Is that why you invited me over here? So you could tell me I'm wrong?

Galaxy: ...Of course not, um...I...

Asteroid: I don't have time for this! I've got to get home anyway. I have to babysit the rug rats...

Yeah, I can see that went well...

Poe: Ok, what's going on in here now?

Eclipse: Rory hit me!

Aurora: She bit me first!

Eclipse: She touched my stuff!

Maybe it's time to think about splitting them up? This room is pretty tiny.

Poe: (sigh) I know. There's no way we're going to fit 3 full-size beds in here. I know. I took measurements. But we've only got 1 spare room...we can't give one their own room. They fight enough as it is...

Maybe Universe has some ideas...

Really...again?

Asteroid: Ugh, this so isn't fair!

Universe: Excuse me?

Asteroid: Why do they keep coming for you? I'm out here every day trying to get this stupid rocket finished, and...

Universe: Wait a minute...you're not actually going to try and fly that thing, are you?

Asteroid: Well, duh...how else am I supposed to get home?

Universe: By walking through the front door, maybe? What are you talking about?

Asteroid: My real home. Where I came from!

Universe: Ugh, Asteroid, I do not have time for this! I'm already behind on getting the cakes ready...

Asteroid: Of course! Everything's always about the little princesses, isn't it? I hate this place!

Cakes? Does that mean...

Yes! We've survived one set of triplet toddlers!

So, is it party time?

Universe: Not quite. We're going to head over to the park in a little while. We've got all day.

Don't tell me you're actually sad about them not being toddlers anymore.

Universe: Well...we're kind of used to it now...besides, if Asteroid is any indication it doesn't exactly get any easier once they're older.

Celestial: Asteroid, are you sad?

Asteroid: What do you think, huh? Leave me alone, rugrat...

Celestial: You can't be sad! Didn't you hear Mama? It's our birthday today!

Asteroid: Whatever...

Look, Asteroid, can you just...

(sigh) We were so close...

Yup, here we go...

At least everyone got easy traits.

Sorry, girls...

Celestial: That's ok. Mommy still gave us these cool necklaces.

Aurora: And we're going to the kids center later to hang out with Gemini and Libra!

That sounds like fun.

Gemini: Happy birthday!

Aurora: Thanks.

Celestial: How long do you think our moms are going to talk for?

Gemini: Knowing my mom, probably forever....

Libra: So you guys all got your own rooms now? Cool...

Celestial: Yeah...they're in the basement.

Aurora: But they built them before we were old enough to pick anything, so they're all in our colors.

Libra: Your colors?

Celestial: Yeah, you know. I'm yellow, Aurora is pink, Eclipse is blue.

Eclipse: I wish they'd let us pick new colors. I'm sick of always wearing the same ones.

Libra: You guys know you can like, change your own clothes now, right? You don't always have to wear the same colors...

Eclipse: We don't?

Libra: Of course not...and you don't always have to do your hair the same way either...

Celestial: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Ok, I see where this is going, so let me get one last picture where I can tell you guys apart.

Celestial: You won't tell anyone, will you?

Nope...I'm looking forward to watching this myself. But I think that's going to have to wait for next round. It's time for me to be moving along. See you in round 18, everyone!

A Message From the Mysterious Voice: One set of toddler triplets down, one more to go! That play group is going to get a lot smaller this round. (For anyone who may be worried about telling them apart once they start to switch clothes...just watch their necklaces and you should be ok.) Asteroid's about 75% done with the rocket at this point; hopefully next round we should be ready for launch.
